FAQ

What is MATT3R®?

Based in Vancouver, Canada, MATT3R brings together industry-leading expertise in hardware, software, and artificial intelligence. Through MATT3R’s K3Y™ device (now available to pre-order) owners of Tesla vehicles can turn their car’s built-in external cameras into a smart dashcam system.

By capturing and analyzing real-world driving scenarios and incidents, MATT3R delivers unparalleled insights for drivers, intelligently flagging on-road events like honks, harsh braking, front collision warnings, and autopilot disengagement.

MATT3R’s K3Y is just one component of the company’s push to keep drivers safe by leveraging AI innovation. MATT3R also develops software solutions to streamline research and development for companies developing Automated Driving Systems (ADS).

Founder and CEO Hamid Abdollahi is a serial entrepreneur whose previous startup, Recon Instruments, launched the world’s first smart eyewear for sports, adding a new dimension to activities like snowboarding and cycling. Recon Instruments was acquired by Intel in 2015. Hamid is also Chairman of Novarc Technologies Inc., a leader in robotic welding innovation.

What is MATT3R’s K3Y device?

Priced at $199, the K3Y is a USB device that sits in the glove box of Tesla vehicles, acting as a silent bridge between the vehicle’s built-in external cameras and a user’s phone.

The K3Y device integrates seamlessly with the popular Tesla Dashcam feature used by millions of Tesla owners. It records footage from the vehicle’s external front, side, and rear cameras, providing a comprehensive surround view of every trip. Additionally, its built-in sensors use advanced AI technology to intelligently flag important events such as honks, harsh braking, front collision warnings, and autopilot disengagement, adding valuable context to each recorded moment.

What is the CONSOL3 app?

The CONSOL3 mobile app for iOS and Android acts as a seamless companion providing access to footage from each trip recorded by the K3Y. Users can simply tap a point on the map and select front, side, or rear view.

Incidents and accidents are automatically flagged in the app, and footage can be accessed remotely. The app also supports third-party extensions, paving the way for a range of new functionality and driver benefits.

MATT3R is currently collaborating with partners on multiple extensions and will announce them over the coming weeks and months.

What big issue does the K3Y solve?

MATT3R’s K3Y device and CONSOL3 app put Tesla drivers in control of the video footage their vehicle records while in motion—and give context to that footage through innovative AI technology.

At present, it’s a cumbersome process for Tesla owners or fleet managers to retrieve this footage themselves.

The K3Y transforms this process, recording footage from Tesla vehicles’ external cameras and making it accessible wirelessly via the CONSOL3 app. The app offers an easily accessible surround view of every trip and intelligently flags on-road events like honks, harsh braking, front collision warnings, and autopilot disengagement, with more features to come in the future.

Is the K3Y available for purchase?

MATT3R is currently taking pre-orders at matt3r.ai/k3y. K3Y shipments are expected to begin in late 2024.

What’s included in the K3Y pre-order?
