Turn Off Dashcam Encryption
Turn off Dashcam Encryption on your Tesla
Tesla update 2026.20 encrypts dashcam and Sentry clips by default and sends them to a locked folder your K3Y cannot read. If your trips and events stopped showing up in CONSOL3, this is almost always why. Turning encryption off takes about a minute, all on the Tesla touchscreen.
Before you start
You are an existing K3Y owner running the latest CONSOL3 app.
Software 2026.20 or newer. Earlier versions do not have this setting.
How to turn it off
-
Open Controls
On the touchscreen, tap the car icon in the bottom dock (or tap the vehicle image) to open Controls.
-
Go to Safety
In the left menu, tap Safety.
-
Find Encrypt Dashcam Recordings
It is the first toggle at the top of the Safety panel. By default it is on (blue).
-
Switch it off
Tap the toggle so it turns grey. That is it. New clips will now record unencrypted, where your K3Y can read them.
-
Drive a little, then check CONSOL3
Take a short drive or wait a few minutes for fresh clips to record. Your trips and events should start flowing into CONSOL3 again.
Good to know
- Clips recorded while encryption was on stay encrypted. They live in Tesla's EncryptedClips folder and will not appear in CONSOL3. Only footage recorded after you turn the setting off is readable.
- Give it a moment. Nothing shows up until the car records new clips, so a short drive is the fastest way to confirm it is working.
- Keep your K3Y plugged in to the glovebox data port.
- Still secure, just on your terms. With encryption off, K3Y backs your footage up to a cloud you control, so it stays yours and stays accessible.
